Community Organization for Missionary Endeavor (C.O.M.E) Auction & Party

Huntsville’s “Community Organization for Missionary Endeavor (C.O.M.E) will host its Fund-raising auction & party beginning at 7pm Nov. 8. The event will take place in the conference room of the Texas Prison Museum on Highway 75 North across from Kate Barr Ross Park. Featured will be live entertainment, along with food, a live auction & door prizes. Tickets are $5 each, and are available in advance. For more information call 295-0671.

Sam Houston Memorial Museum’s 5th annual Photography Contest Exhibit

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum’s 5th annual “Photography Exhibit” will be on display through Dec. 19. The exhibit will be featured in the museum’s Walker Education Center on 19th Street in Huntsville. Visitor will be allowed to vote for the contest winners, which will be announced Dec. 1. Huntsville Public Library Story Hour for Pre-schoolers

Halloween Safety!!!

The Huntsville Police Department is urging cooperation & increased awareness of all citizens on Friday during the observance of Halloween. Guidelines that can maximize the safety of all involved include proper supervision of children, wearing brightly colored clothes or costumes, wearing reflective apparel, walking on the left side of the roadway – facing traffic, and, while driving, using extreme caution due to the increased number of people & vehicles on the roads. Boy Scout Troop 114 Car Wash & Bake Sale

The Huntsville Head Start program is continuing to accept applications for children 3 to 4 years old. Eligible problems come from low-income families – special-need children are also accepted. Family Portrait Fund-raiser for the Hornet Yearbook

The staff of the Huntsville High School “Hornet” yearbook will host a “Family Portrait” fund-raising event at 9am Nov. 8. A fee of $20 includes the photo shoot, and one 8-by-10 print.  Holiday card packages, additional print and digital images will also be offered. The event will take place in the high school’s small gym. Parking will be available behind the school. For more information call 435-6100.

SHSU Veterans Week Activities

SHSU will observe “Veterans Week” Nov. 10-14. You’re invited to join in the celebration as the university honors all veterans of the American armed forces. The week will begin with a “Veterans’ Job & Resource Fair” from 10am to 2pm Nov. 10 in the Lowman Student Center Ballroom on the university campus. An “Armistice Day” observation & ceremony – hosted by the SHSU ROTC – is set for 4:30-6:30pm Nov. 11 at the flagpole next to the ROTC building. From 11am to 1pm Nov. 14, you’re invited to the “Grillin’ & Chillin’” event at the Veterans Resource Center. For more information call 294-1111.
