TRANSPORTATION UPDATES MONTGOMERY COUNTY

Community Impact reports these updates on Montgomery County roadways with the funding source of Montgomery County road bond funds:

Between Lake Conroe Bay Road and I-45, Calvary Road will be reconstructed to be a four-lane asphalt road. The project is in the design phase with a timeline to be determined at a cost of $1.01 million.

Between FM 1097 and FM 830, Cude Cemetery Road will be reconstructed to be a four-lane asphalt road. The project is currently in design phase with a time line to be determined at a cost of $872,040.

Between FM 149 and Highway 105, Lone Star Parkway will be reconstructed to be a four-lane road. The project is currently in design phase with a timeline to be determined at a cost of $1.02 million.

Between South Shore Drive and FM 1097, additional width is being added to Lake Mount Pleasant Road. The project is under construction with construction having begun in January at a cost of $4.8 million.

Between Rogers Road and Highway 75, Coaltown Road is being reconstructed to include additional roadway width. Construction began in February at a cost of $4 million.

NEW BIOMEDICS DEPARTMENT POSITIONS SHSU-COM FOR GROWTH IN MEDICAL AI AND HEALTHCARE INNOVATION

Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine has received approval from the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to establish a new academic department to advance the future of healthcare innovation, medical education and applied research.

The Department of Biomedical & Digital Health Intelligence in Clinical Systems (BioMedics) will officially launch Sept. 1, 2026, with Dr. Vinoth Sittaramane serving as department chair.

The new department was created to advance the integration of biomedical sciences, artificial intelligence, digital health and clinical informatics across medical education, research and healthcare delivery. The department will support interdisciplinary education, applied innovation and strategic partnerships designed to improve clinical decision-making, patient outcomes, healthcare operations and population health, particularly in rural and underserved communities.

Morgan Wallen Cancels Pittsburgh Concert Over Severe Weather Concerns

Morgan Wallen’s June 6 concert in Pittsburgh was canceled because of severe weather concerns near Acrisure Stadium. The show was scheduled as the second of two Pittsburgh stops on his Still the Problem Tour.

Wallen said the decision followed discussions with local officials and his team, with safety as the main concern for fans, crew members, and everyone working at the venue. Refunds were made available through the original point of purchase.

The cancellation drew criticism from some fans online, especially from people who had already traveled to the stadium or planned their night around the show. Wallen later addressed the reaction, saying the decision was based on the information available at the time.

NEW PRINCIPALS FOR CONROE ISD

Community Impact reports that Conroe ISD finalized the hiring of five new principals at their June 2^nd special board meeting. The principals will serve the district for the 2026-27 school year.

At Gordon Reed Elementary School, Amy Barber will serve as the new principal. She served in several positions at Giesinger Elementary, including classroom teacher, assistant principal and coach.

Angela Akin Fonville will become the new principal of Giesinger Elementary School. She brings 20 years of educational leadership to the job. In her work at Cy-Fair and Conroe ISD, she had roles of summer school principal, trainer, data analyst and classroom teacher.

At San Jacinto Elementary School, Lara Vasquez will fill the job of new prinicipal. In the education field, she has almost three decades of experience. She served as a literacy coach, teacher, educational diagnostician and assistant principal at Runyan Elementary School.

Barbara Solbert will be signing on as principal at Oak Ridge Ninth Grade campus. At Conroe High School she served as associate principal. She brings with her 31 years in the education field with 19 years in administration.

At Birnham Woods Elementary School, Tonya Smith will become principal. She is a former principal at Buckalew Elementary. She also held the position of assistant principal there for over ten years.

SAM HOUSTON MEMORIAL MUSEUM THIS SUMMER

The Sam Houston Memorial Museum and Republic of Texas Presidential Library has an array of events planned for families this summer. Beginning Saturday, June 13, the Summer Spotlight Program will begin. Running every Saturday until July 25 (excluding July 4), from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the museum’s education department will be on the museum grounds hosting free activities for all ages.

Curator of Education Matt Phillips said, “We’ll kick off our Saturday Spotlight series on June 13 with a look at historical textile dyeing techniques.”

Other programs for the summer will include the basics of black powder muskets, drill demonstrations, grinding corn, quilting, fiber arts and homemade ice cream making. The Saturday Spotlights will round out with the Steamboat House open to the public on July 25.

Complementing the spotlight programs, the museum will also have a series of historical demonstrations, including blacksmithing, spinning, kick wheel pottery and woodworking. All outdoor programs are free and open to the public. Regular admission fees apply for those wishing to tour the Sam Houston Memorial Museum.

BTS Kicks Off 2026 Festa With Adorable ‘Family Photo’ Celebrating Group’s 13th

BTS has officially launched its 2026 FESTA celebration with the release of a new family photo featuring all seven members. The image arrives as part of the group’s annual anniversary event, which commemorates the date of their debut on June 13.
