Commissioners’ Jail Workshop Held Thursday

Published on May 25, 2012 by Larry Crippen

Walker County Commissioners, Sheriff Clint McRae, Jail Administrator Captain Steve Fisher, and jail project Architect Ken Burns met Thursday morning to discuss approval of the design development of the plans for the Walker County jail project.

Architect Burns brought along a large set of plans to be submitted to the Jail Commission for Commissioners to see . . . .

Burns showed Commissioners many of the features of the new jail, including much improved kitchen facilities with an expanded pantry, a first-aid area where inmates could be treated for minor medical problems–an original idea from a local citizen, hearing rooms with much improved security, a more secure jail visitation procedure through cameras and monitors, and a great number of other modern improvements and up-to-current-standard designs.

Commissioners approved the plans.

The third step in the process will be the architect’s submission of construction documents to the commission.
