Darius Rucker will officially become the next member of the Grand Ole Opry tonight. He was surprised by pal Brad Paisley with an invitation to join the Opry on October 2 and is still processing the fact that he will soon be a member of the Opry family.
“The thing you think of is the music and every time I’m about to walk on this stage, you really think of just the legends that played here night after night after night,” he said. “You know, just be a part of it now — no, not just to be a part of it, to be a member of it — is pretty damn awesome.”
Once he’s officially a member, the Opry is going to be hard pressed to get rid of him. Darius plans to be standing on the coveted stage as often as possible.
“I’m gonna be here a lot, as much as a member’s supposed to be here and more, because Pete [Fisher] and those guys have been awesome to me since I started this,” he said. “I’m dedicated to this. I’m not the kind of guy who becomes a member and then gets lost. That’s not how I live.”
You can watch Darius’s induction ceremony live on GAC tonight during a special episode of Noteworthy at the Opry. Tune in tonight at 9/8 p.m. CT to watch!
