Kenny Rogers will release his memoir, Luck or Something Like It, on October 2. In the book, he will reflect on his rise to fame and cover his personal highs and lows. He’ll speak candidly about his rough childhood, including living in the projects in Houston and growing up in poverty. He’ll also detail how his father’s alcoholism helped him avoid a substance abuse addiction.

Inspired by his mother and her thought-provoking wisdom and advice, Kenny entered the music business with a reputation for hard work and a positive attitude. These characteristics helped him through the valleys of his career, including the breakup of his first group, The First Edition, and the struggles he faced when he branched out as a solo artist.

Throughout his career, Kenny has reinvented himself several times over and had success in multiple genres. He’s worked with artists including Elvis, Dolly Parton, Ray Charles, Dottie West and Lionel Richie. His story is a candid look at the country music industry and how his success  helped him push musical boundaries.

Some of the highlights from Luck or Something Like It include Kenny discussing his longtime relationships with Dolly Parton and Lionel Richie; an inside look at “The Gambler” from the song to the TV move franchise; and a detailed look at his personal life, speaking openly about his marriages and struggles to maintain a work-family balance.

Kenny will make several appearances on a national book tour for his memoir. Dates as well as pre-order information can be found at
