OFFSTAGE: Dierks Bentley: The Blessing of Holding Hands

Published on November 21, 2012 by CMT News

Dierks Bentley
(CMT Offstage keeps a 24/7 watch on everything that’s happening with country music artists behind the scenes and
out of the spotlight.)

The Thanksgiving tradition of holding hands and giving thanks will probably feel a little
different for Dierks Bentley this year. He lost his dad this summer,
and holding his hand while he passed away actually was the blessing. “In an odd way, I’m most thankful for being able to be
with my dad, holding his hand as he passed away this year,” he told People Country. His father Leon died on June 1,
2012. He was 88. And the day after, Bentley posted the very moving
black-and-white photo of his hand wrapped up in his father’s hand
. Two generations of Bentley men intertwined forever.
I still can’t look at it without crying. “I’m thankful that with the schedule I have, it worked out that I was able to be
there with him at that moment. It’s something you’ll never have back, time with your loved ones when they’re gone,” Bentley
said. “As his son, I felt it was a blessing to be there with him.”
