The City of Huntsville and Walker County Offices of Emergency Management would like to ask all residents to stay mindful of potential inclement weather beginning today and continuing through the weekend.
According to Lance Wood, a Science Operations Officer with the National Weather Service, a strong cold front will be moving through southeast Texas Thursday with much colder temperatures during the following days.
Wood said, “There will be a good chance of rain across the southeast Texas area from Thursday night through Friday.” He said, “The rain will likely become more intermittent and light by Friday evening, but when combined with temperatures falling to below freezing across northwest areas, this could produce some ice accumulation, especially on bridges and elevated structures.
Wood said, “There is the potential of additional icing occurring on Saturday and into Sunday morning across these same areas, and we will be looking closer at this possibility tomorrow when we will have more confidence on the weekend precipitation pattern and amounts.”
Huntsville Police Department Lt. Jim Barnes emphasized caution on the part of all drivers, especially those planning to take part in local events scheduled for Saturday.
