For their part in a jewelry robbery outside a McDonald’s in Huntsville two years ago, three Colombians have been sentenced to prison for a long time.

Monday in Judge Don Kramer’s 12th District Court, a plea agreement was reached with the Walker County District Attorney’s office on first degree felony charges for aggravated robbery with Fernando Rodriguez-Amaya, Luis Alberto Garcia, and Maria Isabela Silva. A fourth person accused in the crime, Gabriel Rios-Castillo has decided on a trial by jury.

Rodriguez-Amaya was sentenced to 22 years, Garcia to 19, and Silva to 10.

On April 17th, 2011, jewelry dealer Arif Sayed was struck by a vehicle driven by one of the thieves fleeing the scene, as he ran outside the McDonald’s on 11th Street to intervene when he saw several people breaking into his van. Two days later, the jeweler died in a Houston hospital as a result of head trauma.
