At Monday morning’s Walker County Commissioners’ Court, Commissioners took a record vote on a proposed tax rate for the fiscal year beginning October 1, 2013 and ending September 30, 2014 and set Public Hearing Dates.
County Auditor Patricia Allen explained that “the effective rate is 65.78 as compared to our current rate of 63.55 . . . .”
The need for the two-cent rate increase was also based on declining revenues from EMS and the weigh station in Precinct #4.
Ms. Allen provided Commissioners with examples of average residential homestead prices and the proposed tax increase in dollars . . .
Three Commissioners and Judge Pierce voted for the proposed tax increase. Commissioner White voted against it. Commissioners also voted to set public hearing dates on the proposed tax of August 19th at 9 AM and August 26th at 5:30 PM in the Commissioners’ Courtroom.
Commissioners also approved a “Burn Ban” Monday, which is now in effect.
