County Purchasing Used Ambulance

At this week’s session of Walker County Commissioners’ Court, Commissioners heard from County Purchasing Agent Mike Williford regarding the purchase of a used ambulance for the EMS fleet.

Williford said they “issued a formal solicitation to search for a used ambulance.” It was on the website, in the local paper, and was sent to some suppliers . . . .


A prebuilt “box” to transport patients is often put on the chassis of an ambulance. Williford said they were offered “a direct purchase or two financing options.” County Auditor Patricia Allen suggested the direct purchase option of $80,188.32 because of the interest savings involved. EMS Director John Nabors said if purchased now, an ambulance would not have to be bought in the upcoming year. Commissioners approved the purchase. Money will come from the “Special Contingency Fund.”
