Eminent Domain Issues Discussed at City Council

Published on August 21, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Tuesday afternoon, members of Voters for Lower Taxes, the Sam Houston Tea Party, and Eminent Doom got together at Jaidyn’s Restaurant to sign a petition and talk about their opposition to the possible use of eminent domain by the University to acquire land from property owners.

In Tuesday night’s session of the Huntsville City Council, several of those concerned spoke to councilmembers in regard to the issue. Tarek Maalouf spoke to councilmembers in reference to the university’s actions following his making the only bid on time on the Military Reserve Building on Sam Houston, and the University continuing to try to obtain the property–mentioning the possibility of the use of eminent domain to do so . . . . .

Mr. Maalouf also requested that SHSU’s President Dana Gibson call him to discuss the issue.
