Firefighters Train at New Waverly Fire Station

Published on July 15, 2013 by Larry Crippen

Twenty-four Firefighters from Huntsville, North Montgomery County, and New Waverly converged on the New Waverly Fire Station on Saturday to continue training in wildfire firefighting and safety. With the summer fire season fast approaching and the recent loss of 19 Arizona firefighters, additional emphasis has been placed on safety and recognition of dangerous wildfire conditions.

This weekend’s training included two safety courses designed to identify many of the same wildfire dangers that have resulted in previous fatal incidents around the country.

Nearly 50 Walker County Firefighters are completing their basic wildfire training this month, while this weekend’s group have now completed training required of all lead wildland firefighters and supervisors.
