HISD Community Forum Held Thursday Night

Published on February 15, 2013 by Larry Crippen

About 50 or so Huntsville citizens showed up for a community forum in the HISD Boardroom to either hear or voice views on HISD’s proposed $61.9 million dollar bond issue for new construction and infrastructure update.

Most who spoke at the meeting were in favor of the bond package, like Mance Park Middle School teacher Shelley Petkovsek . . . .

Randi Jackson spoke in opposition to the bond . . . .

Jackson said, “The 17 cents per per hundred proposed increase is actually a 14 percent increase for what we’re going to be paying on our taxes, and the $61 million dollar bond will actually cost us $95 million dollars in the 25 years.”

SHSU professor Ed Davis addressed the forum in favor of the bond issue . . ..

The Board will meet again February 21st.
