HISD Security Efforts

Published on August 01, 2013 by Larry Crippen

At HISD’s Board of Trustee’s Workshop this week, Assistant Superintendent Sonny Cruse updated board members on efforts to staff all HISD campuses with a security officer.

He said one of the companies he talked with about security couldn’t guarantee officers with Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education certification. Cruse said another company offered officers with certification, but they charged between $38 and $45 dollars an hour which would place them out of the proposed budget.

Although they did a great job, Cruse had the impression adding more local police like they were using would “not be possible.”

Later, however, Assistant HPD Chief Darrel Slaven and Sergeant Mike Legerski met with Assistant Superintendent Cruse and discussed options with him . . . .

A contract is not planned at the moment, just a continuation. Mr. Cruse wants to look at how its working out after the first six weeks. Cruse will bring the issue up at the August Board meeting.
