Madison County Grand Jury Indicts Officer

Published on February 26, 2013 by Larry Crippen

In Madison County, a grand jury has indicted 37-year-old Madisonville Police Officer Jeffrey A. Covington on public corruption and narcotics charges in connection with an alleged plan to plant methampthetamine on an innocent person.

Covington is charged with delivery of a controlled substance, obstruction or retaliation, and official oppression.

Covington allegedly tried to recruit several narcotic informants in the summer of 2011 to plant methamphetamine in the vehicle of his ex-wife, Laura Covington. She had been in a child custody legal dispute with him. After law enforcement found the substance in the woman’s car, Assistant Attorney General David Glickler notified her that the state would not pursue the case and the charge was dismissed.
