The most recent report regarding the issues between local businessman Tarek Maalouf and SHSU over the purchase of the Military Reserve Building on Sam Houston Avenue is that, according to a spokesperson, the TSU System Board of Regents will not now implement eminent domain action to obtain the property. Mr. Maalouf filed a bid with the city on time for the land, while the university did not. The university has said they were not properly notified of the bidding process.
The reason given for the reported decision is because the regents decided the property had not been properly surveyed before being submitted to the Board. It has also been reported the university system may purchase the land from Maalouf Properties.
Also, the TSU Board will reportedly still be meeting in regard to the matter in Alpine on Thursday and Friday.
