The contention continues over the purchase of the abandoned Military Reserve Building on Sam Houston Avenue between SHSU and Tarek Maalouf of Maalouf Properties of Huntsville.
Mr. Maalouf met the City of Huntsville’s June 17th bid deadline with a bid of $650,000 for the property–the Council accepting his bid on July 2nd. The university did not meet the deadline.
According to a report published in the Huntsville Item, the university has expressed that it is interested in the property to use in helping with the issues of veterans and their ROTC program. The University is threatening to condemn the site and acquire the property through eminent domain law.
The issue remains in legal dispute with a local attorney, the City’s Attorney, and the Attorney General’s office now involved.
