TxDOT’s Bryan District is proposing improvements to I-45 from 2.1 miles south of FM 1696 to .8 of a mile north of FM 2989 in Walker County. TxDOT will be holding a public meeting on the project.
The meeting will be held on Thursday, May 16th from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM at the Walker County Storm Shelter on Highway 75. Attendees will be able to come and go as they please to review project displays and ask questions of TxDOT staff in an open house format. The purpose of the meeting is to present the proposed project and receive public comment.
The proposed project would update approximately 11 miles of I-45 in Walker County between Huntsville and Madisonville to current design standards, increase the roadway’s capacity to accommodate future traffic volumes, and improve access for local travelers. The improvements include adding one mainlane in each direction, adding on-way frontage roads on both sides of the mainlanes south of FM 1696, and replacing bridges and increasing vertical clearance to accommodate freight traffic.
