Late last week, Jeffrey Martinez from Beaumont was charged on two counts of intoxicated manslaughter with a vehicle for allegedly causing an accident involving three vehicles on I-45 over a year ago.
DPS reports that Martinez was driving a Jeep the wrong way on the northbound side of I-45 near the Sam Houston Statue and Vistitor Center around one in the morning on April 3rd of last year when his vehicle hit a Chevy Cavalier head-on. The impact caused the Cavalier to go into a spin and crash into a Ford Focus behind it.
The driver of the Cavalier, Pedro Rameriz-Monsivais, and passenger Jorge Rodriguez-Sepeda died on impact. In the Cavalier, another passenger was injured as well as the driver of the Focus.
The charges on Martinez are second-degree felonies carrying penalities of two to 20 years in prison.
