HISD is moving in the direction of doing their own lawn maintenance on their athletic fields.
The school district would start by not renewing their contract with Liles Lawn Service for the fields. Interim Superintendent Sonny Cruse introduced the new groundskeeping move to Board members Tuesday night . . . .
Once the equipment is purchased, Cruse sees it saving the district money in the long run. Two people would be hired to do maintenance. One would be paid between $9 and $11 an hour, while a second employee would receive $12 to $14.60 an hour. Also, next year the interim superintendent recommends the grounds maintenance at the high school and middle school campuses be taken over in-house at the end of their maintenance contract because of the smaller grass area.
Cruse said he would keep Trustees informed of the process.
