Director of Curriculum and Instruction Marjetta Spriggs addressed HISD School Board Trustees Thursday night in regard to the district’s performance goals and objectives.
A team of administrators and teachers have met and looked at the performance goals and objectives they had set forward. They will continue to implement the “Curriculum Cornerstones” program for students to facilitate academic success for students.
She met with the District Advisory Committee this week to clarify any issues. Spriggs addressed some of the objectives they are looking at . . . .
Spriggs said another goal chosen was “providing a new teacher induction program prior to the beginning of the new school year and provide ongoing support throughout the school year.”
Another strategy for improvement she mentioned was to “implement and identify discipline intervention as needed to reduce referrals.” Spriggs said they “alter behavior.” She said, “We have children that have behaviors that are very different than behaviors that we may have had 20 years ago.” They want to help teachers learn how to “de-escalate” these behavior issues.
Another objective Ms. Spriggs listed was to “investigate the possibility of implementing the optional flexible year program.”
They also wish to be inclusive of all students in celebrating pride in the beginning of the new school year.
Also mentioned was exploring providing continuing education opportunities for teachers.
