MLK Presentation Held Monday Afternoon

A Martin Luther King Jr. Day memorial service, “Moving Forward in Unity,” was held at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center in Huntsville Monday afternoon.

Mayor Mac Woodward and HISD Superintendent Steve Johnson spoke to those attending along with local clergy. Dr. Richard Watkins honored the late local civil rights icon Wendell Baker, Sr. with an appreciative speech. The Aquord community Quartet and the 2014 Community Youth Choir presented special music.

The Commemorative Speaker was the Pastor of the Bethlehem United Methodist Church of Hempstead,Texas, Reverend David Briggs. Reverend Briggs theme was about building bridges among all people. One of the many ways he expressed this was an old African Proverb . . . .
