Fifty-nine-year-old Suzanne Margaret Basso was executed at the Walls Unit at 6:26 last night. She was executed for the murder of a 59-year-old developmentally disabled man, Louis Buddy Musso, in 1998. Her motive was Musso’s life insurance benefits.
Basso became only the 14th woman in the U-S to be executed since the Supreme Court allowed capital punishment to resume in 1976. Wednesday, the same court also rejected her attorney’s appeal that she was mentally incompetent.
Basso’s accomplices in the beating death of Musso are serving sentences ranging from 20 years to life.
