Trinity County Constable Injured During Escape Attempt

Published on August 13, 2014 by Larry Crippen

Tuesday, the website reported that a Trinity County Constable was injured after a man had been taken into custody.

The incident occurred around 12:38 PM Tuesday after Precinct #2 Constable Mark Cole and Sheriff’s Deputy Wells had taken Jeffrey Mackey into custody from his Coach Village home in regard to a warrant for assault in family violence.

While Constable Cole was transporting Mackey, Mackey jumped from the vehicle in an apparent attempt to escape. The sudden stop of Constable Cole’s car resulted in the Deputy’s vehicle running into the back of Cole’s car. Mackey fled the scene of the accident but was taken back into custody by Deputy Wells.

Because of his injuries, Deputy Cole was flown to a Conroe hospital for treatment. The constable complained of arm and shoulder pain. Later it was reported that doctors put a splint on his left arm but no broken bones were found, although he was bruised and hurting. He was eventually released from the hospital to go home.

Deputy Wells did not have any major injuries. Tuesday, Jeffrey Mackey was being held at the Trinity emergency room, remaining in custody.
