A HOMEGROWN HORNET & BEARKAT WILL BE THE NEW HEAD BOYS BASKETBALL COACH AT HUNTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL. OFFICIALS WITH HUNTSVILLE ISD ANNOUNCED MONDAY THAT JAY OLIPHANT WILL TAKE THE REINS OF THE PROGRAM, SUCCEEDING LARRY CARLSON WHO RESIGNED EARLIER THIS YEAR. OLIPHANT, WHO WAS A STANDOUT PLAYER AT BOTH HUNTSVILLE HIGH SCHOOL AND SHSU, HAS SERVED AS THE HIGH SCHOOL’S GIRLS HOOPS COACH FOR THE PAST 5 YEARS.

THE SHSU MEN’S GOLF TEAM LEADS THE SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT FOLLOWING THE 1ST ROUND OF THE EVENT. THE KATS COMBINED TO SHOOT A 2-OVER-PAR SCORE OF 290 THROUGH THE 1ST 18 HOLES ON MONDAY. SAM HOUSTON LEADS 2ND-PLACE CENTRAL ARKANSAS BY 6 STROKES GOING INTO TODAY’S 2ND ROUND AT STONEBRIDGE RANCH COUNTRY CLUB IN McKINNEY.

IN BASEBALL TODAY, THE SHSU BEARKAT WILL HIT THE ROAD WITH A MATCHUP AGAINST NATIONALLY RANKED HOUSTON AT 6:30PM WHILE THE HUNTSVILLE HORNETS WILL BE AT BRENHAM AT 7PM. ALSO, IN SOFTBALL, ALPHA OMEGA WILL HOST BRAZOSPORT CHRISTIAN THIS AFTERNOON AT 4PM.
