Town Creek Drainage Issue Discussed At Council Session

Published on May 06, 2015 by Larry Crippen

At Tuesday’s Huntsville City Council session, much of the discussion focused on amending the Klotz and Associates’ Phase I contract for the Town Creek Drainage Project to include an additional $360,000 for Phase II which includes the design, engineering and construction of the project and to amend the budget for it.

Local environmental activist George Russell addressed councilmembers in regard to his view of the project’s damage to the creek’s natural infrastructure. Local citizen Bruce Moore presented historical and natural artifacts samples that he believes would be destroyed if the drainage project was allowed to proceed.

Position 4 Councilmember Keith Olson asked Kotz and Associates Senior Vice President Tom Ramsey a question about the project. In referring to a workshop on the drainage project, Mr. Olson said, “You told everyone in that room that you believe that this project is imperative. It may be one of the most needed projects you’ve seen in 40 years . . . .

Councilmembers voted to approve the amendment to the Town Creek Drainage Project contract to include addtional funds for Phase II.
