Brazos Valley Solid Waste Issue Discussed at Last Council Meeting

Published on January 07, 2016 by Larry Crippen

At this week’s regular session of the Huntsville City Council, the “Consent Agenda” included an item that would authorize the City manager to approve a purchase order for $250,000 for the disposal of solid waste at the Brazos Valley Solid Waste Authority’s Twin Oaks Landfill.

Mayor Andy Brauninger asked Director of Public Works, Carol Reed, to “explain the monetary implications of us having to use the Brazos landfill and how we as a City hope to recoup that additional expense . . . .”

Ms. Reed explained that, “What we¬† will recoup is the difference between if we would have hauled that solid waste to Polk County at 16-73 a ton and hauling it to Twin Oaks at 27. So, it’s that difference that we would withhold from what we owe to Polk County.”
