New Waverly Firefighters Respond to Log Home Fire

Published on March 23, 2017 by Larry Crippen

New Waverly Firefighters were dispatched just before 4pm Monday afternoon to a house fire on Pine Ridge Lane. The homeowner had discovered a fire on the outside of the home near some electrical equipment, and the fire had spread into the attic and was rapidly spreading through the attic when the first crew of New Waverly firefighters arrived.

Firefighters were able to knock down the fire before it could spread further, but the home’s log cabin style construction and metal roof, along with warm spring temperatures, made final extinguishment difficult. Additional crews were summoned from several area departments, and upon their arrival they relieved the exhausted crews on the scene, extinguishing and cleaning up after the fire.

Although the fire itself was contained to one wing of the home, most of the home was damaged by smoke and high heat conditions. No injuries were reported, and many of the homeowner’s personal possessions were salvaged by firefighters.
