Texas ACLU Sends Letter to 13 Texas Counties Regarding 287(g) Agreement

Published on April 11, 2017 by Larry Crippen

Monday, the ACLU of Texas said they“dispatched letters to 13 Texas counties concerning their decision or their intention to enter into a 287(g) agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). Under the 287(g) program, local law enforcement agencies agree to dedicate resources, training and manpower to enforce immigration law on behalf of the federal government.” The ACLU of Texas is in opposition to this.

Our local Sheriff’s department is among the 13 Texas counties listed by the Texas ACLU concerning their decision or intention to enter into a 287(g) agreement with U-S Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE. The other counties include Aransas, Brazoria, Calhoun, Chambers, DeWitt, Galveston, Goliad, Lavaca, Matagorda, Montgomery, Refugio and Wharton.
