The Montgomery County Courier reports that the Conroe VFW Post 4709 is putting together a fundraiser to help in the cost of various repairs for their building.
Several things have happened along the way to force them to get a fundraiser underway. The Post was closed due to meeting restrictions from the state for a time, so they couldn’t put on their charitable bingo, run a money raising canteen or do any fundraising in the building. Roof repairs and three air conditioners going on the blink resulted in a total of $100,000 in costs. In October, a leak in their commercial kitchen stopped their ability to rent it or for their own use. Leak repair is still in process.
In the past. The VFW Post has helped veterans in Conroe, given support with their scholarship program and volunteered help at senior centers. Their kitchen had been available with the goal of helping the community during a disaster.
Post Commander Marcey Phillips said, “We’re not able to support events in the community like we would normally.”
So, their first gala, the “Red, White and Boots Gala,” is planned for 5 to 9 PM February 23 at the North Montgomery County Community Center at 600 Gerald Street in Willis.
Congressman Morgan Luttrell will be speaking along with VFW National Adjunct General Dan West. Joe’s Italian Restaurant will provide the food. For tickets, go to givebutter.com/vfw4709gala. General admission is $75. For vets, military members and responders, $50. Their goal is $200,000.
