Taking a monumental leap forward in rodeo sports, education and community engagement, Sam Houston State University proudly announces the grand debut of its rodeo arena. Marking a historic moment for the SHSU Rodeo team and Walker County, this state-of-the-art facility will open its doors to rodeo enthusiasts Nov. 10 & 11 as the team hosts their first competition in the arena.
Part of a transformative multi-million-dollar initiative aimed at developing the university’s Gibbs Ranch, the new arena stands as a testament to SHSU’s commitment to academic excellence and student success. Alongside the arena, this ambitious project encompasses a dedicated rodeo team stall barn, an innovative horticulture and learning center, advanced laboratories, collaborative workspaces and state-of-the-art greenhouses.
For more than a decade, the SHSU Rodeo team has hosted their rodeo events in Conroe, due to the absence of a suitable venue in Huntsville. Now, with their very own home, Rodeo Coach Bubba Miller believes it will foster the team’s continued growth and success.
The SHSU rodeo area is located at 1143 SH 75 N. Huntsville, TX 77320. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the gate both evenings (Nov. 10 & 11). Free admission for children 12 and under.
