The Courier of Montgomery County reports that after school officials gave the go-ahead to a 2024-25 academic calendar, students at Montgomery ISD will begin school a week later and will pick up an extra holiday.
Chief of Staff and Communications Justin Marino said when the district asked for input for the school’s calendar next year through a local survey, the first-day-of-school date was one of only a couple of proposals the survey participants wished to change.
In the 2024-25 school year, the kids will be coming back to school on August 15th. This year, the first day of return was August 10th.
Marino said that district officials expect that on election day some schools will be utilized as polling places. So, there will be a holiday on the November 5th election day.
Survey statistics, revealed during a January 23rd board meeting, showed a tally of participants at over 2,000. A breakdown showed, of those taking part, 1,646 were parents and 975 were members of the staff.
The last day of school will be May 23rd, a date which occurs before Memorial Day, which Marino said parents and staff members had a preference for.
In next year’s calendar, the fall break will be longer–a five-day weekend. Staff members get four.
