The Courier of Montgomery County reports that a new fire engine has been added to Conroe Fire Department’s fleet to fight local wildfires and fires statewide. It’s all due to a Texas Forest Service grant.
The department, according to Interim Fire Chief Mike Legoudes, was awarded the grant for the truck back in 2021. Only three departments were awarded the grant that year. They received the engine earlier this month.
It’s a $286,000 engine. The state will reimburse its total operational costs while used under the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual System. The system is maintained by the Texas A&M Forest Service. Grants, training, qualification, and mobilization systems, including local resources statewide are included in the program.
Legoudes said, the Conroe Fire Department’s Wildland’s team qualifications, capabilities, participation and commitment to the Texas Intrastate Fire Mutual Aid System were the important components of the award which was based on a competitive point system. He said, in regard to collaboration and response to wildland fire incidents, disasters and other emergencies, the system insures that fire departments across Texas are prepared.
