Community Impact reports that during a March 20th Montgomery ISD budget and financial outlook update meeting, Superintendent Mark Ruffin said the district is predicting a budget that will be balanced for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
According to Ruffin, the city is in the position of not having to look forward to a deficit, because of the passing of the $5.5 million voter-approval tax rate election in November of 2024.
The district confronted a shortfall of around $4.3 million at the start of the 2024-25 fiscal year.
Ruffin said the community should expect, not only a balanced budget in the future, but increased compensation and fiscal transparency alongside the district addressing its fund balance, staffing, long-term financial stability and ongoing support for increased funding.
The budget objectives for the 2025-26 school year, according to Ruffin, include:
-Across all positions, providing competitive salaries.
-Basing it on the needs of the campus, to staff campuses and departments.
-Moving in the direction of providing long-term financial health.
-Improving safety and security across the district.
-Meeting student’s needs by offering programs.
