Dr. Thomas J. Mohr, dean of Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine (SHSU-COM), was named the 2023 W. Douglas Ward, PhD, Educator of the Year by the American Osteopathic Foundation (AOF). Presented this month during AOF’s Honors Gala in Orlando, the prestigious award honors an individual who displays the osteopathic profession’s highest standards of excellence in teaching, is passionate about osteopathic medicine, has made a significant impact on the academic advancement of osteopathic students and has made long-standing contributions to the profession in the academic arena.
In less than a year as dean of SHSU-COM, Mohr, DO, established a new office of Graduate Medical Education (GME) and led the development of a new rural family medicine residency program. He was awarded a $5.7 million Health Resources and Services Administration grant to fund that program with Huntsville Memorial Hospital and is developing other GME programs.
