This week in a City Council workshop, City Engineer Dr. Kathlie Jeng-Bullock gave a wide-ranging description and detailed financial presentation on possible proposed street projects with possible bond support for Huntsville. Eleven projects were discussed by way of street graphics in a slide presentation, which included funding costs. Without going into great detail in this newscast about the projects, councilmembers could choose from the proposed projects, a Financial Plaza Extension; Ravenwood Village Extension; Veterans Memorial Parkway Widening; FM 1374 Widening; 25th Street Extension; Pine Shadows Drive Extension; 16th Street Extension (Phase 1); Sycamore Avenue widening; Windridge Drive Widening; Oakwood Cemetery—Mayes Addition, Section 3 Extension and a 16th Street Extension (Phase Two).
At present, an ordinance to call an election must be approved by August 19th.
City Manager Aron Kulhavy informed councilmembers:
He added that, “There are two uniform election dates every year. It is not something that has to go this November.”
Another way to fund it would be Certificates of Obligation. Approved by the council only. Grant funding may be available for the projects in the future.
If the City had to pay for all the projects through 2030 the amount would be $176,600,874.
They will be having another workshop in the future.
