At this weeks regular meeting of the Board of Managers of the Walker County Hospital District, board members listened to updates from local executives of the Community Hospital Corporation operating Huntsville Memorial Hospital.
In a geographical area like ours that is often susceptible to major storms, continuity in hospital operation is a primary necessity. The hospital is getting a new power generating system through the Power Through Program in conjunction with Entergy.
The new generator will be a major improvement in providing emergency power to the hospital during times of power outages. Chief Operating Officer at the hospital, Ian Gibson, informed board members.
The current system it will replace provides necessary power but is not as comprehensive in coverage. Gibson said, Entergy “expects a 15 to 56 week lead time from when we send them the agreement. So, then they will have it operational.”
