Season tickets for the SHSU Bearkats’ 2016 football season are now available. Season tickets for the 6 Kat home games – including the annual “Battle of the Piney Woods” contest against Stephen F. Austin at NRG Stadium in Houston – range from $110 to $275. The Sam Houston football season begins Sept. 3 at Bowers Stadium against Oklahoma Panhandle State – and will also include home games against Abilene Christian, Texas Southern, McNeese State & Central Arkansas. Sam Houston Memorial Museum: “Miguel Covarrubias: Caricaturista.”

Huntsville’s Sam Houston Memorial Museum invites you to its new exhibition: “Miguel Covarrubias: Caricaturista.” Covarrubias was one of the foremost Mexican artists of the 20th century with important contributions in the fields of anthropology, archaeology, theater & dance. The exhibition focuses on the sophisticated caricatures that made Covarrubias famous, providing a unique window into the cultural & political culture of the 1920s & 30s. Sam Houston Memorial Museum-Blue Star Museums program

June 3 - September 5

For the 6th year, the Sam Houston Memorial Museum in joining more than 2-thousand museums across America to offer free admission throughout the summer to military personnel & their families. The Blue Star Museums program continues through Labor Day Sept. 5. The museum is open Tuesdays through Saturdays 9am-4:30pm and Sunday noon-4:30pm. Meals on Wheels Volunteers Needed

The Senior Center of Walker County is seeking volunteers for its “Meals on Wheels” program. Meals are served Monday through Friday in Huntsville, and on Mondays & Tuesdays in rural areas. Waterwood Marina Fireworks Display

The Waterwood Marina in San Jacinto County will be the site of a big fireworks display beginning at dusk July 3. You’re invited to be a part of this Independence Weekend celebration. Veterans Services Expo

July 4 @ 3:30 pm - 6:00 pm

Huntsville’s H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum will host a free “Veterans Services Expo” from 3:30-6pm on July 4. As part of the museum’s 4th-of-July celebration, parts of the expo will be filmed by the movie crew of the motion picture “Stronger,” which is scheduled for release in early 2017. Huntsville Independence Day Celebration

The City of Huntsville’s Parks & Leisure Department will host its annual “Independence Day” celebration on July 4 at Kate Barr Ross Park on Highway 75 North.
